Have you ever been on a vacation or planned a big celebration that was super fun and exciting, something that just got your adrenaline pumping so much that you didn’t even realize (or care) how exhausted you were?
The kind of event that when it is all over you just plop down in your big, comfy chair with a big smile, a full heart, and a tired body? It is a great feeling. That is exactly what happened when we took a trip to Disney. We were running all day and night, soaking it all in, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized I was pooped but… it was worth every blister on my feet!
And as I write this, with a rare second cup of coffee in hand, myself and the team are experiencing that same feeling because we have spent the last couple of months working on the annual Summer Camp Issue!
It is such an exciting time for us. I think because we get to focus on summer while it is still winter outside, not to mention the sneak peek into all the camps! Sure, it is a ton of work and long hours, but so much fun, and totally worth it when we sit back and see all of the awesome summer opportunities we get to share with you and your family. As we design ads, update activities and add new camps to the directory, I imagine all the joy-filled moments local families will experience this summer. It just makes me smile thinking about it!
I never get tired of looking through the March directory and seeing the huge variety of camps available. Day camps, art camps, sports camps, STEM camps and more… you are sure to find several great options. The hardest part is going to be narrowing down which to register for. What Type of Camp will your Child Like is a good starting point.
Author Cheryl Maguire describes a variety of camp options and points to consider about each one. Does your child love sports or have a new sport they would like to try out? Maybe your child is energetic and creative and would like a theater camp. Do you have a child who seems to be curious about everything? If so, STEM camp may be right up her alley. Whether your child has a strong interest in a particular field or just wants to explore various interests, you will find several possibilities in our Summer Camp Guide.
Recently, after I had spent time updating several camps, Brad and I were having dinner after work. I told him I wanted to start a new activity or hobby. Seeing all the fun things kids would be doing made me want to find something too. Sure, I may be too old to go to camp, but you are never to old to pick up a new hobby, right? But who has the time?
As Tanni Haas, Ph.D. shares in her feature, Why Summer Camp Is Great For… Parents, “time” is just one of the benefits that parents can experience when their child attends camp. Camp can certainly be a win-win for everyone. Your child has a great time (in addition to the other perks Dr. Haas discusses) and parents have the opportunity to refresh and rest.
